Stories and Poetry

Here's where you'll find poems from the students of Hal High. Everyone's tried poetry at one time or another....maybe you've got a piece of crumpled paper with some creative endeavors on it? If so, see "Contact Us" for details on how to send it in!

June 2001

Love
Love is deep red
It sounds like soft whispers
It feels like a warm breeze
It smells like freshly washed hair
It tastes like sweet kisses
Adrienne

Spring
Spring is lurking
Just around the corner
Waiting to make
Its final move
She teases us
And laughs at us
Knowing we are waiting
Sitting, expecting
Spring is waiting
Until she's ready.
-Adrienne

Stranger
Stranger
I became a visitor to my own world
Before being accepted into another
A stranger, a dark man they say's my brother
He took me into his arms
And lifted me to the sky
The stranger quickly disappeared from his eyes
I felt strongly ambivalent as he carried me away
For two weeks ago today
He had passed away
-Four students in Ms. Hubbert's Semester One ENG3A Class

You Saved Me
You saved me from myself
When I almost died.
I almost completely lost myself
I became what it was I hate.
You are bringing me bnack
When everyone thought I was gone.
In most people's minds
I was already dead.
Now I am coming back
People just don't know me.
-Adrienne

Stardust
You immersed yourself in
Fantasy
Because reality was too hard for you to swallow.
You couldn't stomach the lump in your throat
That appeared whenever you saw her
In the limelight
Smiling fromt he pages
Winking from a filmed memory
That made millions.

You're the town has-been
(will be/won't be)
The one they all want to avoid becoming
As you sit and stare at the images
Reminiscing about when you both thought that
Time was on your side
And fame was only footsteps away.
When the kisses were real
And love was more than just a plotline.
Before she left you in her stardust
And now you're out of style
(Not to mention time....)
-Vanessa

Tonight
I'd like to take my pen
And try to write tonight.
Scribble pages worth of meaningless things
Until something beautiful emerges,
Like a butterfly from a cocoon.
Poetry taking wings
And putting miles between itself
And sluggish thought.
-Vanessa

Laundry Day
I feel like
When the Universe put its laundry on the clothesline
It hung me out to dry,
And forgot to bring me
Back in
Before the acid rain came.
